There is no 'boot zfs raid'. There is boot ZFS (ZFS can be configured as any RAID type and be booted. Linux cannot due this as licensing of the CDDL blocks it from having anything but the loader to install it as a module. FreeBSD has no such restriction. As long as the gptzfsboot blocks are installed, the loader will recognize it and load the Solaris and zfs modules. From there, it's a straight boot operation like any other file system. My home server uses ZFS as a root partition. The root partition is on RAID-1 aka mirrored volumes and has no issue booting from both/either.
