Hello.

I'm trying and install FBSD 2.0.5-RELEASE on a no-name P90, 64 Mb
RAM, 2 GB SCSI HDD connected to a PCI NCR controller, usual seri-
al/parallel keyboard/mouse, etc.

My problem is w/ the ethernet card (NE2000 16bit clone). It's a
card I know for sure it works, since I already used it in a DOS/
Windows machine, and in another FBSD box (1.1.5.1) with no prob-
lems.

When I run the install diskette, I can go the point where the
filesystems are created, newfs'd, and /stand is installed. I can
chose the install media (FTP) and the distribution type (com-
plete, with no X11 sources), then I enter the data for this ma-
chine (name: foo.ibenet.it, domain: ibenet.it, addr:
194.179.130.2, mask: 255.255.255.0, gateway my router
194.179.130.254, dns 194.179.130.1, >no special parameter< to if-
config).

Note that the system correctly reports the card as ed1, and I can
see the correct hardware address at boot.

Then the system ifconfigs the interface, DEBUG reports exit sta-
tus 0.

But, when the install program (actually, ftp) tries to nslookup
the ftp server (I tried several different servers, but that's not
the problem), I get several (6/7) ed1: interface timeout errors
(well, it's not the exact error, but you understand ...), I can-
not ping the new machine from another one on the same network,
and it eventually asks for another ftp server.

Now, the ethernet cables are good, otherwise I couldn't send you
this e-mail, since strider is on the same eth bus, and the card
is working (I used it for a while), and it's recognized by the
system.

It's obviuos I'm doing some stupid error, but I can't think of
anything.

In the emergency shell I can verify the interface is up
(flags=8863).

What can I do?

Many thanks,
