I was shocked to see that firewire has arrived in -STABLE. I upgraded my Vaio (Z505JE) this evening and sure enough, I can now plug it in and 'dd if=/dev/da0 bs=10m count=5 of=/dev/null' and get about 115 mbps out of it. Not bad. A tip: I found that if you are paranoid, you can make the iPod switch from it's "do not disconnect" to its "OK to disconnect" state by doing a 'camcontrol eject 0:0:0'. I have no idea if this does anything substantive in the iPod itself. Of course, I have a mac iPod, so I can't do anything more than that (no HFS+, no mac partition table support), but that doesn't annoy me or anything. Now if only we had an EHCI driver (for USB 2.0)... To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-firewire" in the body of the message
