You have one of three problems: 1) You can't boot off the CDROM. This is a known issue, discussed in the 3.3-RELEASE errata notes at: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/3.3R/errata.html As that page suggests, boot off floppies. 2) Your CDROM is incorrectly configured. It is "illegal" in terms of the ATAPI specs to configure a CDROM a slave on a channel that has no master. In spite of this, many manufacturers ship machines with this invalid configuration. Jumper the drive as a master. 3) Your "Creative Labs" CDROM isn't a real ATAPI drive, in that it doesn't adhere to the ATAPI specs. It only works with the Wintendo drivers with which it is supplied.
