If you're able to remount the filesystems read-only it should be simple:

e.g for /usr.

# mount -u -r /usr
# tunefs -n enable /usr
# mount -u /usr

Hope this helps,
Mark

Subject: Activating Soft Updates remotely

Hello,
I have a 4-stable system that I admin remotely. How would I go about
enable softupdates on it? Would I need to hack /etc/rc to enable it during
a
reboot?
