My system seems to be having problems creating log files:

  Ku uname -a
  FreeBSD KualaLumpur.cs.monmouth.edu 4.6-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.6-RELEASE #0:
  Tue Jun 11 06:14:12 GMT 2002
  murray@builder.freebsdmall.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386

  Ku ls -ld /var/log
  drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 1536 Jun 25 03:03 /var/log

  Ku startx

  Fatal server error:
  Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
  Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

  giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): unexpected signal 2.

  Ku

Also, the message

syslogd: /var/log/console.log: No such file or directory

occasionally pops up on the console. Can anyone explain how these problems
might be fixed?
