First off, what type of netcard do you have? FBSD supports a variety, but
possibly not the one you have.  If you know it is supported, you need to
read the documentation and find out the name of the driver FBSD uses for
it and make sure you configure it properly in the kernel. When you boot
the configured kernel, watch to see if you get any error messages for it.
