Dear FreeBSD Developers,

I am FreeBSD user for years and now I have a problem with
ZIP Parallel in new version 4.0 which I bought in the USA
this summer.

I have only made two interventions in the file
   /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC

First
device ppc0 at isa? flags 0x4 irq 7
                       ---------
                     to mode EPP 1.9

Second
I have changed line: #device vpo
to the new content: device vpo

and made new kernel in usual way.

But it is impossible to do

mount -t msdos /dev/da0s4 /zipp (MSDOS ZIP disk) or
mount /dev/da0s4c /zipp (UFS ZIP disk)

because very unpleasant report is:
mount: Device not configured

Boot sequence from "dmesg" follows and
shows problems with vpo0: VP0 error/timeout

ppc0: <Parallel port> at port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 flags 0x4 on isa0
ppc0: Generic chipset (EPP-only) in EPP mode (EPP 1.9)
vpo0: <Iomega VPI0 Parallel to SCSI interface> on ppbus0
vpo0: EPP 1.9 mode
ppi0: <Parallel I/O> on ppbus0
lpt0: <Printer> on ppbus0
lpt0: Interrupt-driven port
plip0: <PLIP network interface> on ppbus0
ep0: <3Com 3C509-TP EtherLink III> at port 0x300-0x30f irq 10 on isa0
ep0: Ethernet address 00:60:8c:b6:62:6c
ata0-master: DMA limitted to UDMA33, non-ATA66 compliant cable
ad0: 12419MB <ST313032A> [25232/16/63] at ata0-master using WDMA2
acd0: CDROM <TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-5602B> at ata1-master using PIO3
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (2)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
vpo0: VP0 error/timeout (5)
Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s3a

First experiment I have made (with the same effect)
was without "flags 0x4" in ppc0, i.e.
device ppc0 at isa? irq 7
and ppc0 mode was NIBBLE, vpo0 mode was EPP 1.9

The same situation is in FreeBSD version 4.1 but not in 3.2,
where the ZIP drive works without any problem.

Yours sincerely
