Hi Kent, I tried this out myself and it looks like -j4 doesn't make much of a difference on my machine. Looks like my findings concur with yours. For those interested this was a compilation of 4.2-STABLE 02-12-2001 on a Pentium 233 MMX 128MB SDRAM. Softupdates enabled on a Quantum Fireball EX 12.7GB. A number of "NO_XXX"'s were uncommented in my make.conf.
