You have to be able to distinguish between classes (m68k or powerpc) and specific instances (amigas & old macs, powermacs or beboxes). We've got something like 20 different machine types we run on, but only about seven different kinds of processors (mips, ns32k, i386, m68k, vax, powerpc, sparc). Thus, MACHINE vs. MACHINE_ARCH.
