 XFree86 Version 4.0.1 / X Window System
 (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6400)
 Release Date: 1 July 2000

Must be getting  munged somewhere during startup  (using startx on  this
machine).  When I log in remotely, erase2 is set correctly.
