You should run xf86config and answer the questions there.
(you should also know at which tty your mouse is connected /dev/ttyd0 ir d1)

Then use startx to start the server. To control the layout of your
screen you can use a copy of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitc as
.xinitrc.
