What is the 'cpu long mode' ?

I have a netbook which runs freebsd 9 nicely,

but it wont install freebsd 10 because of this.

It has an Intel Atom cpu.

64-bit mode, called the "amd64" architecture by FreeBSD.

Most of the Atoms used in netbooks, at least until recently, are 32-bit
only. The i386 version of FreeBSD will run nicely on these.
