Dirk, I agree with most of that - but in many cases it comes down to simple things like: "the right tool for the right job". In my case there was a need to solve these issues with jails - relatively quickly - so I just decided to do it, instead of "wasting" time (unfortunately my life is very busy). I am not saying there are no better ways to tackle this in the community, I just needed a solution and decided to put it on Github to share it.
