Yes, on an old laptop: atapci0: <Intel PIIX4 UDMA33 controller> port [...etc.] ata0: channel #0 on atapci0 ata1: channel #1 on atapci0 [...] ad0: 6194MB <IBM-DADA-26480/AD60A4AA> [13424/15/63] at ata0-master UDMA33 Works fine. I'd guess the ATA controller chipset is more important than the drive model in diagnosing this. There has been some discussion of possible (not confirmed) ATA controller problems on freebsd-stable recently, although they seem to be saying it started in 5.3 RELEASE. - Bob
