This message belongs in -questions.

I've had more luck jumpering pnp modems than letting the OS (Windows
included) configure them for me.  If you do not currently have a device on
sio0 (COM1) disable it in the BIOS and set the modem for COM1.

Also, make sure that this is NOT a WinModem (Designed specifically for use
with Windows.)
