Sometimes the machine goes completely dead (not
pingable) and sometimes I can ping the machine and
connect to a daemon but nothing happens after that.

Could be an option if I had one specific problem...

Gonna use/try that till the end of the week and fix
the problem for good (kick out the NIC, upgrade to 4.2
and add some RAM).
