Although with its own quirks, AIX is, likely, a better Unix, than Mac OS X...

Even if it is not, it is not worse enough to justify getting rid of one 
(vendor-installed) Unix and install another.

In other words, I doubt, it is the licensing, that prevented people from using 
MacOS on their IBM PowerPC machines...
