I noticed a similar problem when initializing a 4-disk RAID5 array some
weeks ago. In my case I had two disks on ATA-66 controllers and two disks
on ATA-33 - and the ATA-66 connected disks initialized at roughly double
the rate of the ATA-33 connected disks. I simply assumed it was due to
difference between the ATA-66 and ATA-33 speeds.
