well, wouldn't yah know it, I booted with the GENERIC kernel and it worked! plug-and-play *was* turned off, as it turns out. but if the device wasn't recognized, no wonder it would not work. thank to everyone for their help in getting me thru this! --alissa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
