Hello, I have been sending numerous mail regarding the problem of connecting or rather the inability to get out on the net with ppp. Today i tried something which seems to have worked. The question is, why is it working if what i did does not go along with both the FreeBSD Handbook and PPP(8) man page. This is what I did. 1) changed ppp.conf in the dial script to login using my sons username and password. It connected to the 1st portmaster 209.47.145.10 which is the one I could never get out on. I left the "set ifaddr" to 209.47.145.213 (my static IP) and found I could not get out as usual. 2) I changed the "set ifaddr" to 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 and dialed back in and saw with "show route" in ppp on BEEF> that i was again connected to the first portmaster with the IP as shown above for this particular portmaster. I tried a traceroute to www.freebsd.org and presto I was able to get out. 3) I then went back in to ppp.conf and put in the login script my username and password. I left the set ifaddr to 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 and redialed back to my ISP. Again i hit on the first portmaster and I am able to now connect and get out on the net. The show route also shows that my addr is the static one assigned to me which is 209.47.145.213 Here is the show route: PPP ON beef> show route default 209.47.145.10 ffffffff UG (1) 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 ffffffff UH (3) 205.236.175.139 209.47.145.10 ffffffff UGH (1) 209.47.145.2 209.47.145.10 ffffffff UGH (1) 209.47.145.10 209.47.145.213 ffffffff UH (1) PPP ON beef> As I asked before, why does this work, when infact, the man page and the FreeBSD Handbook both tell me to put in set ifaddr my static ip, and when i do i can't get out anywhere????? Maybe this might be helpful to someone else encountering the same problems i did. Thank you for reading this and for any response you may give Lanny Baron
