I got FreeBSD 2.2.2 a couple of weeks ago in the mail and decided to load it at
home to reside with my Win 95. I have a Compaq Presario 4112 (P120/16M). It
seems to lock up at various stages of installation. I'm using eide drives, the
on-board video, sound, etc. I also have an AT&T chip modem card installed(which
I couldn't seem to get recognized).

I also installed it here at work, where everything's generic. It works great.

Could the locking up problem be because of a proprietary motherboard? Also, I
read in an earlier FAQ that FreeBSD has a problem with WinModems. How can I
I.D. if that's what I have? Is it printed on most of them? When I look at the
properties in W95, it doesn't mention Winmodem.

Unfortunately, when Compaq makes a family PC, they want you to pay them to
upgrade or do anything to it. I had a heck of a time adding a second hard
drive. Anyway, when I was inside the PC to upgrade my space, I noticed only one
identifying mark on the motherboard(other than "COMPAQ"). There was a graphic
of the alien head in the movie Predator stamped in white near the memory banks.
 Does anyone know the origin?
