i learned UNIX fundimentals on a BSD (FreeBSD 2.2.2) system when i was about 12,but i ran Linux at home first because i had a copy given to me.  I like FreeBSD alot better than Linux because it's not trying to be a better Windows (ala KDE and GNOME), plus the license is alot less communist.  The best part is, the developers arn't just barely older than my self, which means they have way more experiance.
