That really does have the "better security than normal" issue.   Another
choice may be -FIX

Since relatively few commits are made, I would actually prefer
4.4.1-RELEASE, 4.4.2-RELEASE ....  that's what they really are,
microreleases for fixes.

I am not proposing the entire tree be tagged, which I understand is a very
expensive CVS operation.
