One of the biggest mistakes that anyone can make in this industry is to assume that technical superiority is enough to assure the success of a product. How many technologies have we seen fall by the wayside in the wake of a less worthy but well-advertised competition? The Amiga, OS/2 Warp, beta...ultimately people are more concerned with compatibility and ease of use than lofty technical issues. Plus, to read the stories of Linux mythos in the media, you'd think Linus was some starving Finnish child who carved x86 operating system source code into wood and then rallied millions of programmers around the world to pursue his altruistic cause. How can you not help but love the David who would challenge Microsoft's Goliath with no concern for personal gain?
