I assume you are using an ATI card now, and both gdm user and your own user
have rw access to /dev/dri/card0. It is odd to see 'Permission denied' in t=
he
log if the permission is set correctly.

After reading the forum post more carefully, I think the gnome-session-fail=
ed
screen was started by gnome-session, whose messages may be available in
~/.cache/gdm/session.log. Can you check whether the log file and dmesg show
some programs has crashed too quickly?
