Synopsis: SLIM DRIVE COMBO fails with READ_BIG error on kernel startup State-Changed-From-To: open->feedback State-Changed-By: gavin State-Changed-When: Sun Jun 24 21:34:46 UTC 2007 State-Changed-Why: The behaviour you have noticed is due to the default for the hw.ata.atapi_dma sysctl changing from 0 to 1 before 5.3 was released. Booting in safe mode changes this back to zero, which is why the CD-ROM drive works again when booted in safe mode. hw.ata.atapi_dma defaulted to zero again for 5.5-RELEASE. Do you still have this same problem with a 6.x version of FreeBSD? http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=79730
