K6-2 500's are very picky about cooling and power supply capacity.

Did you use thermal grease and do you have an oversize heatsink
with at least a 50 or 60mm fan on it?

Have you tripple checked the CPU voltage setting?

Did you happen to change from running a 66Mhz to 100MHz FSB when you
went from the 300 to the 500?
