Fixed!  You can go about this in two ways.  One is to set your locale to
de_DE.ISO_8859-1, then upgrade to the recently patched gnomevfs.  The
other is to set whatever DE locale you want, and also set CHARSET to
ISO8859-1.  Seems like the nl_langinfo code is broken in gnomevfs.  If
it worked, we wouldn't need charset.alias at all.=20
