Either softupdates (but only briefly). More likely, a rotated/deleted
log file that's still being held open by a process. Try running

	openfiles /var

(just a shell script - you can get it at
	http://tribble.ilrt.bris.ac.uk/~cmjg/unix/scripts/openfiles
)

...or get lsof.
