I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but from natd(8) man
page:

-verbose | -v
	Do not call daemon(3) on startup.  Instead, stay attached to 
   the controling terminal and display all packet alterations to
   the standard output.  This option should only be used for de-
   bugging purposes.

I'm running FreeBSD 4.1-STABLE, so I can't check if this works on a
3.4-RELEASE system. Check for yourself! :-)
