That's a well-known problem.  It can be worked around by setting
MOZ_DISABLE_IMAGE_OPTIMIZE=1 in the environment before starting
firefox.

It isn't even specific to FreeBSD.

Mark Kettenis (OpenBSD) analyzed the underlying problem, but I can't
