`od' driver may help.
ftp://daemon.jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD-jp/OD/
It works fine for my 2048bytes MOs, though I don't know if it works
for all 2048 bytes media. Concerning 3.4-RELEASE, PAO patch includes
the od driver.
