My workaround is:

# cat /etc/ppp/ppp.linkdown 
provider:
        shell /bin/sh -c "/sbin/route delete default"
        shell /bin/sh -c "/sbin/route delete -inet6 default"

I had to come up with a quick fix and haven't had the time to find the
proper solution to this problem.
