Subject: script to process tar/cron output?

Hello,

We run tar each night out of cron. This results in a whole slew of
2-meg email messages being sent to our root email readers.

Surely someone out there has/knows of a script that reads tar output
and looks for errors? I could easily enough write one to mail just
the last 20 lines or so of tar's output, but I'm not absolutely
certain that would catch all possible error conditions.

Thanks,
Michael
