Maybe somewhere in the README or the documentation, there should be
included information on how to get updated kernel sources more easily.  In
other words, something like being able to FTP it (see below).

Try ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-current/src

and do a:

get sys.tar.gz

This will get the current kernel tree (about 6 or so meg)...  If you
forage around a bit, you can also find the 2.2-ALPHA and 2.1.6 stuff
also...
