Personally I don't mind either way, however keep this in mind: Most linux
systems are so package based anyway that "Linux can compile their Fortran
programs and FreeBSD cannot" is equivalent to "you can't read the install
documentation" .

Hell, I'd be happy to have each type of compiler a tarball and install
option there under 'compilers', with C/C++ standard. Then people really
can't complain 'ahh but its a package, one package amongst too many..'
