There are even alternative solutions for the Flash unless you want to play video games full of Flash! The only reason they didn't work for you is that you didn't know how to set up those features. Never the less if you fell more comfortably with Kubuntu stick with it. FreeBSD is not platform for everything and everyone. Personally, I find myself using more and more OpenBSD. So you have to use OS you are comfortable with and has a features you most desire (in my case enhanced security).
