Even better, I just checked and had no problem assigning the address
192.168.1.127 with a netmask of 255.255.255.128 to an interface. As near
as I can tell, the only check performed is whether or not there's a 255
in the final octet or the address, since 10.4.255.100/255.255.0.0 and
192.168.1.0/255.255.0.0 both work fine.
