Can you replece fwdv.c with the following one and try again?
http://people.freebsd.org/~simokawa/firewire/fwdv-20030217.c

It detect PAL by fdf.dv.fs and fix the DSF bit if isn't set.
It should also output '\n' every seconds even for PAL.
