I think this is useful enough that it should be trivial to enable (without having to know about the file and setting it up) - maybe as a sysinstall toggle to enable it on login. This means that the messages in freebsd-tips will be displayed on a standard install, and viewed as an integral part of the base system. We do not presently have any part of the base system that obnoxiously identify who the contributor for that particular part of the system is. The closest is the AUTHOR section of the man pages, but that is really minimal in comparison with the rest. In the freebsd-tips as committed, there are credit for the tip included in each tip submitted by an external contributor that hasn't specifically asked not to be credited. I don't think this is appropriate without at least a discussion around it, as it sets a strong precedence for displaying individual credits in the system when it is running (if we're starting to display credit people for submitting single lines of text, expecting displayed credit for e.g. submitting a driver would not be unreasonable).
