That's odd...if you are using the port, the code in the Makefile
(something I didn't add, but didn't remove either):

.if ${OSVERSION} < 400004
CC=             egcc
CXX=            eg++
BUILD_DEPENDS=  egcc:${PORTSDIR}/lang/egcs
.endif

should force egcs to be installed and used...can you confirm for me that
this is not the case?  'which egcc' doesn't come back with
/usr/local/bin/egcc?
