Another handy thought...

Don't cd to /usr/X11R6/lib/gtk-2.0/2.2.0/immodules, delete the
gucharmap-gnome package, and then portupgrade gtk.

Foot shot. gtk reinstalled without error. gucharmap-gnome
rebuilding. Foot still hurts. Learn to think before shooting.
