hello, I'm running 4.2-Release and my machine will crash sometimes for no apparent reason. The last time this happened I recompiled my kernel with: makeoptions DEBUG=-g And added dumpdev="/dev/ad0s1b" to my rc.conf Last night my machine rebooted again so I decided to try some kernel debugging. The first thing I noticed is that I couldn't find kernel.debug, which I thought was supposed to be created for me. So I ran the following commands & got this error: # cp kernel kernel.debug # strip -g kernel /usr/libexec/elf/strip: kernel: rename: Operation not permitted I figured it was some permission error and didn't worry about it. Next I went to my kernel compile directory and ran: # gdb -k (kgdb) symbol-file /kernel.debug Reading symbols from /kernel.debug...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
