Let's assume for a minute that....

- the NIC is set correctly or as recorded in Freebsd manual
- the gateway, DNS, Netmask are properly set
- that IPs and Netmask are valid
- /etc/rc.conf has been consulted, hosts configured etc..
- there are really no disturbing startup msgs except for LP1 probe
failure bcause it is sharing IRQ with LP0 - not a big deal I hope..
- BSd box is getting to the router via a NIC thru a hub
- there are at least 2 win95 that can make the journey to the router and
surf
- and a fresh installed is done over to a get a fresh kernel built

But when you ping from from this BSD box, you get "host is down" msg and
from all indications, you are reasonably certain that the BSD is not
making the trip to/thru the router ... WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE ..???

I appreciate any suggestion ...
