Subject: [e2e] TCP tuning software from web100

The web100 project just released TCP performance instrumentation software.

This software consists of Linux kernel patches that (loosely) implement
draft-ietf-tsvwg-tcp-mib-extension-00.txt as well as a set of user tools that
make it easier for a moderately cluefull network administrator or user to get
TCP to run at line rate.

>From the abstract in the I-D:

This draft describes extended performance statistics for TCP. They
are designed to use TCP's ideal vantage point to diagnose performance
problems in both the network and the application. If a network based
application is performing poorly, TCP can determine if the bottleneck
is in the sender, the receiver or the network itself. If the bottle-
neck is in the network, TCP can provide specific information about
   its nature.

Neither the software nor the draft is done yet. If you have suggestions or
ideas for TCP events that should be instrumented please let us know.

Also, you might find it interesting to speculate how this might change the
traffic dynamics of the Internet as a whole.

There is more information and software at www.web100.org

If you have any questions or comments, I will be at the IETF.

Thanks,
--MM--
