After working at the command line in FreeBSD (since Freebsd 2.2.5 days) for
the last 5 or 6 years, I finally decided to load FreeBSD 4 (4.2Release for
now) on one of my home peecee's and try out this X-Windows thing. ;-)

I have the X-Windows server running and to say the least the desktop is
rather boring.

I've heard and read lots about the GNome desktop, and a bit about the KDE
desktop...

Is there a preference out there? can I install both and flip back and forth
between them?

Just curious which route would be the better to go first... (I'd like to
see both actually).
