This should be OK. You can even interactively (!) restore from that file 
using a command like:

gunzip /filelocation/filename.dump.gz -c |restore -if -

For a full restore of all files in the dumpfile use:

cd restoredir
gunzip /filelocation/filename.dump.gz -c |restore -rf -
