OK so far.

Odd.  Press ALT-F2 and see what's up. Don't forget to use <SPACE> to
select checkboxes, not <RETURN>.

I doubt it; the above playing may have confused sysinstall.  If you are
having problems with programs giving Signal 11s, you may have bad memory.

Again, press ALT-F2 and see what jammed.  The FTP probably quit when  you
lost your connection to your ISP.
