I'm afraid my FreeBSD box crashed and I decided to install debian (I still
love FreeBSD, though, I just decided it wasn't right for what I am doing)

Debian used to give trouble with the device as well, and I recall that
dmesg gave a specific error message about the chipset not being supported
or somthing like that, but the new kernels on my machine give no such
error messages.

IIRC, OS X also has trouble with the device.

Anyway, if you'd like the device, perhaps I can send it to you? I no
longer use it since it doesn't work in any of the machines I'd like to
use it on.
